In the September 2012 issue of The National Jurist Magazine and PreLaw Magazine UMKC has been named as the 20th best law school in the nation for its value and employment prospects after graduation.  According to data from  The National Jurist Magazine, UMKC’s “weighted employment rate” for graduates after passing the bar exam is 76%, which surpassed notable law schools at institutions such as Brigham Young University, Temple University, the University of Kansas, and the University of Florida, among many others.

The magazine’s “Best Value Rankings” are designed to find law schools where graduates have the best chance of passing the bar exam and getting a job in the legal field without taking on a lot of debt.  The Jurist assesses the following factors:

  • Percent of graduates who passed the bar exam
  • Percent of graduates who secure a job in the legal field
  • University tuition
  • Cost of living
  • Average indebtedness upon graduation

The study did not attempt to gauge a program’s academic reputation, but was rather designed to assist future law students who will likely prefer to practice at small or midsized law firms.

Congratulations to the UMKC School of Law and Law School Dean Ellen Suni!
